So, there's this frog....

it's early morning and i just went outside to grab something out of the car and i saw the prettiest bird. i think it was a cardinal, but it was huge and had lots more black on it than i am used to. being the avid birder that i am, i will later consult my bird book to confirm. (not kidding, cause that's just how i roll :). ) anywho, when i saw the bird, it reminded me about the list that i wanted to prepare....paying homage to all of the things that i find lovable about our new place.
1.) IT'S LOPSIDED-a neighbor told me that the main part of the place was built in the 1920's, which gives it a good excuse to not always be square. I can relate, so maybe this is why it's number one on my list. :)
2.) tons of kitchen storage-i love small appliances. and gadgets. and for this reason, i am in love with the new kitchen. i feel like i spend the majority of my time in this room, whether it's refilling watered down apple juice, or planning a meal, or making (8) cups of coffee every day. i can honestly say that this is the first place that i have lived where i still have a few empty shelves. what? i didn't know that was possible in a kitchen...
3.) birdies-so far, i have seen several blue jays and the aforementioned cardinal(?). it was to my unpleasant surprise that i learned yesterday that blue jays are omnivores and that THEY WILL OCCASIONALLY EAT BABY BIRDS OR EGGS!!!!! what? no, say it ain't so. only because they are extraordinarily beautiful, will i continue to peer upon them and even try to get special bird seed to draw them in. (Hi, Mr. Home Depot man, do you sell bird seed with eggs in it?)
4.) hardwood floors-no, not the fake stuff. i mean, hard core, old school cut up trees that laid down there lives to make this floor fabulous. it just looks so pretty. and strong. and incidentally, it hides white dog hair SO MUCH better than laminate. (praise be!)
5.) a risen plant bed-this will be a serious on-taking, BUT, in the back yard, there is this little plot of land than currently houses a lot of weeds and GIANT GRASSHOPPERS. any attempt that i have made to grow food outside in Florida in the sand that these people call dirt has failed miserably. so, my plan is to rip out all of the weeds, roots, etc. and fill this sucka with real dirt, and see where i get. i can just taste the fresh lettuce and maters now as we speak...
6.) IT INSPIRES ME-i heart projects. and there are lots to do around here. i have already completed a few (which is huge, because i am notorious for starting and not finishing things). pics to come!
7.) the frog-when we toured the place for the first time, i had to pee. i went in to the bathroom, lifted up the toilet seat cover, and up jumped this frog. i screamed (like a girl) and went to get the realtor. turns out, the house has a septic system, and this little froggy has likely never seen the light of the (outside) day. i wanted to catch him and set him free (and then wash my hands in bleach), but josh and the realtor ran in there and flushed him in an attempt to rid of him forever. well, that did not work (thankfully) because he came back up soon after. i am aware that this would have deterred some from renting the house. but, i love animals, and looked forward to the opportunity to wrangle the little guy out of the bathroom and release him in to the wild blue yonder.

i hadn't heard from or seen the frog since that time. UNTIL THIS PAST WEEKEND. i put Selah in the bathtub and she was playing away. then, i went to wash her hair. we have this little bucket to rinse her head and i noticed a big blob in there when i went to fill it up. IT WAS KERMIT! ha! no wonder there was something funky on the toilet seat when i went to sit down on it earlier that day. (ewwww.) and so, this story has a happy ending. it warmed my heart to cart Kermit Thee Frog outside and set him free. this might seem a little strange, but it made me think of the gospel. and i got to be his Jesus. cool dat.
